Zero-knowledge, explained
Encrypted before it ever leaves your device
Your master password unlocks your vault on your device and nowhere else. We never receive it, and we never hold the keys that decrypt your data.
- 01
You enter your master password
It is never sent to us — not even in hashed form.
•••••••••••••
- 02
Argon2id derives your keys
A memory-hard function makes guessing your password slow and expensive.
Argon2id · m=64 MiB · t=3
- 03
Your vault is encrypted
Every item — including its title and URL — is encrypted before upload.
XChaCha20-Poly1305
We store what we can't read
Encrypted data only, without the keys to open it.
Nothing readable on our side
Titles, usernames, passwords, URLs, notes and 2FA secrets are all inside the encrypted item. The server sees IDs, padded sizes and timestamps.
2FA codes generated locally
One-time codes are computed in your browser or the extension from secrets only your device can decrypt.
Sharing without a middleman
Team keys are encrypted to each member's public key and signed by the person who shared them, so the server can't slip in a key of its own.
Product
One vault for every credential your work depends on
Passwords, 2FA codes and secure notes — organized, searchable and one click away, on the web and in your browser.
Built-in authenticator
Keep TOTP secrets next to the login they protect. Paste a setup key or otpauth:// link, scan QR codes, or bulk-import from Google Authenticator. Copy the live code straight from the list.
Browser extension
Fill logins and 2FA codes with a click in Firefox, Zen, Chrome and Edge — even offline.
Move in within minutes
Import from Google Authenticator, Bitwarden, 1Password or LastPass. The export file never leaves your browser.
Passwords and secure notes
Generate strong passwords, organize with folders and favorites, and copy with one click. The clipboard clears itself.
Emergency Kit recovery
An offline recovery code is your way back in if you forget your master password. We can't reset it — by design.
Passkeys and two-step login
Protect sign-in with passkeys (WebAuthn) or an authenticator app.
Sessions you control
Short-lived tokens, automatic locking and a device list you can revoke from anywhere. Security changes trigger an email.
For organizations
Share credentials across teams — and stay in control
Organizations, roles and shared collections built on end-to-end encryption. When someone leaves, MGVault removes their access, rotates the keys and tells you exactly which secrets they could have seen.
Roles and granular access
Owners, admins and members, with view, edit or manage access per shared collection.
Verified members
New members are confirmed by key fingerprint before any key is shared with them.
Key rotation on removal
Collection keys move to a new signed epoch, plus a checklist of passwords and 2FA codes to change.
Append-only audit log
Membership, sharing and key events with masked IPs. Filter by event and export to CSV.
Security architecture
A design where the server is never trusted with your keys
Every key is derived or generated on your device. What crosses the network is ciphertext; what our infrastructure stores, it cannot open.
Client-side key hierarchy
Argon2id → account key → per-collection keys → items. Clients reject weakened parameters.
Authenticated, bound ciphertext
Item ID, collection and version are authenticated, so items can't be swapped or rolled back unnoticed.
Defense in depth on the server
Row-level security, strict nonce-based CSP, rate limits, append-only audit events and encrypted backups.
Built for Türkiye
Your vault lives in Türkiye
Our servers and encrypted backups are distributed across four data centers in Türkiye: Datacasa, Mars Datacenter, Equinix and PenDC. Your encrypted vault, account data and logs are kept in Türkiye and handled in line with KVKK, the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law.
Database and logs are stored in our data centers in Türkiye.
Nightly backups are encrypted on our server and stored across these data centers in Türkiye; the providers cannot read them.
IP addresses in the audit log are stored masked, not in full.
No third-party scripts, fonts, trackers or analytics on our pages.
Supporting services such as email delivery process only the minimum needed and never receive vault contents. Details are in our KVKK notice. Read the KVKK notice

Principles
How we earn trust
- 01
We can't read your vault
Zero-knowledge isn't a setting. It's the architecture: no master password, no keys, no plaintext on our servers.
- 02
Verify, don't trust
Shared keys are signed and members are confirmed by fingerprint, so even a compromised server can't impersonate a teammate.
- 03
Collect as little as possible
Padded item sizes, masked IP addresses and no tracking — we keep only what the service needs to work.
- 04
Document everything
We publish our cryptographic design, our parameters and our known limitations openly on our security page.
Transparency
What we can see, and what we cannot
Zero-knowledge does not mean zero data. Here is exactly what we can see to run the service, and what stays out of our reach.
| Data | Can MGVault see it? |
|---|---|
| Your master password | NoIt never leaves your device. |
| Passwords, usernames, URLs and notes | NoEncrypted on your device before upload. |

What is MGVault?
MGVault is a zero-knowledge password manager that keeps your passwords, two-factor authentication (2FA/TOTP) codes and secure notes in one vault. Your data is encrypted before it leaves your device. It works in the browser and through a browser extension, lets teams use shared vaults, and is hosted in Türkiye. Personal use is free.
Can MGVault staff see my passwords?
No. Your items are encrypted with keys derived from your master password on your device, and neither your master password nor your decryption keys are ever sent to our servers. So neither our staff nor anyone with access to our servers can read your passwords, item titles, notes or 2FA secrets. To run the service we only see your email address and metadata such as when encrypted items changed.
What happens to my data if your servers are breached?
An attacker would obtain only encrypted data. Vault contents are encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305, and the key that opens them is derived with Argon2id from your master password, which is not on our servers. The only path left is guessing your master password offline; Argon2id makes every guess deliberately expensive, but a short or reused password is still a risk. In the event of a personal data breach we notify the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority and affected users, as KVKK requires.
How do I recover my account if I forget my master password?
With the recovery code in your Emergency Kit. Because we do not know your master password, we cannot reset it; the 56-character recovery code you receive at sign-up lets you set a new master password and keep access to your vault. After recovery all sessions are signed out, two-step login is reset and a new recovery code is generated. If you lose both your master password and your Emergency Kit, no one, including us, can recover your data.
How do I share passwords and 2FA codes with my team securely?
Create an organization, open a shared vault and give members view, edit or manage permission. Each shared vault has its own key, encrypted separately to every member’s public key (X25519) and signed with Ed25519 by the person who shared it. New members are verified with key fingerprints. When a member is removed, the vault key is rotated and the passwords that person could access are listed for you to change.
Where is my data stored? Is it covered by KVKK?
Yes. Our servers and encrypted backups are in four data centers in Türkiye: Datacasa, Mars Datacenter, Equinix and PenDC. Your encrypted vault, account data and logs are kept in Türkiye and processed in line with Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK). Supporting services such as email delivery process only the minimum data required; details are in our KVKK Privacy Notice.
Is it safe to store 2FA codes alongside my passwords?
For most accounts, yes, and it is far more convenient, but it should be a conscious choice. 2FA secrets are end-to-end encrypted in MGVault and codes are generated only on your device. On the other hand, keeping a password and its 2FA secret in the same vault ties both factors to the security of one vault. We therefore recommend protecting your vault with a strong master password plus a passkey or authenticator app, and considering a separate hardware key for your most critical accounts, such as email and banking.
How do I move from another password manager or from Google Authenticator?
With the import tool, in a few minutes. We support export files from Bitwarden (JSON or CSV), 1Password (CSV) and LastPass (CSV), Google Authenticator export QR codes and otpauth:// links. The file is processed in your browser and every item is encrypted before it is uploaded. Delete the unencrypted export file when the import is done.
Which browsers and devices are supported?
The web vault works in all current desktop and mobile browsers. The browser extension supports Firefox and Firefox-based browsers (Zen, LibreWolf and others) and Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome, Edge and Brave; current install options are on the Extension page. A Safari extension is in preparation. On phones and tablets you use the web vault; there is no separate mobile app yet.
What are the limits of the free plan?
The personal vault is free with no item limit, including passwords, 2FA codes, the browser extension and import. A free organization supports up to 3 users, 1 shared vault and 50 shared items, with 7 days of audit log retention. For larger teams, the Team plan removes these limits and keeps the audit log for 365 days.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Your account and personal vault are permanently deleted and you are removed from your organizations; items in shared vaults stay with the organization. Copies in encrypted backups expire automatically at the end of the 14-day backup retention period. There is no export tool for the personal vault yet, so copy anything you want to keep before deleting.
Is MGVault open source? How can I verify its security?
MGVault is closed source. Instead, we publish our cryptographic design, parameters and known limitations on our Security page, and we test our crypto code against standard test vectors (RFC 9106, RFC 7748, RFC 8032 and others) and an independent reimplementation. You can report vulnerabilities to the address in /.well-known/security.txt. An independent third-party security audit is planned and will be announced on the Security page when complete.
